Blue Raider Volleyball Ousts LA Tech Bulldogs

Middle Tennessee volleyball won against Louisiana Tech at home Sunday, October 5th. With three sets to two, the home team edged a conference victory away from the Bulldogs.

An exciting first set began with well placed kills and LA Tech led until the first tie at 8-8. MT picked up the pace, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-10 and leading into their first timeout. Monet Miller and Jacquelyn Lux maintained authority over LA Tech, yearning to win the first set. The Bulldogs errors hurt them and resulted in giving the set away with several service errors. Middle Tennessee kept up the pressure and took the first set at 25-21.

Both teams performed more evenly and kept it tied up until they neared the 20-point range in set two. LA Tech finally broke Middle Tennessee’s two point lead at 19-22, taking the second set for themselves with a score of 20-25. The Blue Raiders played as they did in the first set here in set three. They lost sight of the lead and were down by at most eight points (6-14) in the third set. Middle Tennesse attempted to salvage set three but never gained enough momentum to come back from the gruelling deficit. LA Tech won this set (22-25) and entered the next half-heartedly.

Middle Tennessee strove to keep up with LA Tech, taking the lead over them 11 times in set four. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the set and concluded with a MT victory at 28-26. The match was tied up at two sets a piece entering the fifth.

An LA Tech timeout at 5-1 in set five ceased fans’ excitement momentarily. Middle Tennessee continued to maintain a four to six point advantage until the fifth set’s conclusion, winning the set at 15-10 and the match, three sets to two.

The Blue Raiders will face-off against East Tennessee State University in Johnson City on Tuesday, October 7th at 5:00p.m.
