Lenda Sherrell conceded defeat in her loss against Republican Scott DesJarlais for U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday night during her post-campaign celebration at Mayday Brewery in Murfreesboro.

Sherrell, a Monteagle native, lost District Four to DeJarlais, who took 58 percent of the vote.

“If this campaign has taught Washington anything tonight, it is that talking to each other instead of at each other is the right approach to fixing our broken politics,” Sherrell said in her concession speech. “I do not view tonight as a disappointment, nor will I conclude that our hard work is in vain. The causes we fought for must live on.”

Despite her loss, Sherrell remained optimistic, confident her campaign had made an impact.

“Defeat has not weakened my resolve,” Sherrell said. “I still believe that the government works best when we treat each other more as neighbors and as friends, not just democrats and republicans. I still believe, that what brings us together is far greater than what divides us.”
