The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders opened up a two-game home-stand hosting the Lipscomb Lady Bison on Thursday evening at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.

Middle Tennessee 2 – Lipscomb 2

The Lady Bison and the Blue Raiders began the first half with an even amount of chances to score, but it was Marcie McKay who struck first for the Lady Bison  in the 15th minute. Brooke Brenner was credited with the helper on McKay’s goal.

Lipscomb came close to tacking on a couple extra goals, as they kept chipping the ball down deep in the MTSU zone. On multiple occasions, the Bison were able to break down the Blue Raider defense, but Kelsey Brouwer was strong in net.

The Blue Raiders were able to even the score on a corner kick that was headed in by senior Emily Jorgensen and assisted by Tori Hawkins, her second of the year.

The Blue Raiders didn’t wait too long to convert in the second half. Taylor Kirk scored in the 51st minute off of a corner kick from Courteney Gibson to give the Blue Raiders the 2-1 lead.

The Blue Raiders made a costly mistake by allowing an own goal in the 65th minute, tying things up at two apiece.

The game went into overtime, and after two periods neither team put one in the net as the game ended 2-2

MTSU is now 4-1-1 and Lipscomb is 4-1-3.

Middle Tennessee 0 – Murray State 2

The Middle Tennessee soccer team traveled to Murray State on Sunday afternoon in search of their fifth win of the year.

In the ninth minute Harriet Withers found the back of the net for her third goal on the season to give Murray State the early 1-0 lead. Shelby Haworth and Taylor Richerson assisted on the goal.

The Blue Raiders offense didn’t seem to be too in sync in the first half, only managing three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

The second half was a different story for the Middle Tennessee attack, who managed eight shots on goal, but couldn’t get one past Murray State goalkeeper Shelby Haworth.

Murray State sealed the deal in the 82nd minute with a goal from Taylor Stevens, her first of the year.

MTSU fell to 4-2-1 on the season, while Murray State improved to 4-2.

UP NEXT – The Blue Raiders travel to Macon, Georgia on September 18th to take on Mercer, and then the team begins conference play at home against Southern Miss on September 25th.
