Secret Santa is an anonymous gift exchange between members of a group or organization that’s popular among many different age groups.
“The coolest thing about Secret Santa to me is just the surprise aspect and the fact that the giver knows who their giving to, but you don’t know who you’re going to receive from,” MTSU junior Anthony Grande said. “It allows people to sneak around and find out what other people like, and what they enjoy and learn about the person they’re giving their gift to.”
Secret Santa has grown in popularity over the years. Families use it as a way to decide what an aunt gives what nephew or niece a gift, and it provides not only a financial breather, but Secret Santa makes gift openings each year different. For college students like Grande, it’s grown as a tradition among his friends.
“I think it just started out as us getting to know each other, just something fun we can do, but now it’s become a tradition,” Grande said. “It’s something that we can look forward to all year and look forward to during the Christmas time.”
Whether you celebrate Secret Santa with your friends, your family or even your coworkers like on NBC’s The Office, it’s becoming more prevalent, and it’s a fun way to get to know the ones around you.
