In conjunction with MTSU’s homecoming week, students went all out in the homecoming games held at Floyd Stadium Tuesday night. Games included bubble balls, corn hole, a hungry hippo inflatable and ‘90s-inspired relay races.

The main event for the homecoming games was bubble balls. Students wore inflatable ball suits and competed in teams of two. There were rubber balls lined up in the middle of the football field, and each team lined up on opposite sidelines. There were also four goals in each corner of the field. The goal for each team was to get eight balls in their respective goals in five minutes. Things got interesting when players got aggressive, running into each other and sometimes knocking each other down.

Sororities, fraternities, Raiders for Christ and other MTSU organizations participated in bubble balls. There were matches of girls versus girls, guys versus guys and a coed round. Alpha Chi Omega won the girls’ match, and Phi Delta Theta won the guys’ match.

“It feels fantastic to win,” said Chase Hochstetler, a freshman commercial construction management major and member of the winning Phi Delta Theta team. “I had a great team behind me and couldn’t have done it without them.”

Hochstetler’s teammate Andres Cortes, a sophomore physics major and member of Phi Delta Theta, did what he could to help his team.

“I had a blast, and my role was to bait people so that’s what I did, and I got hit a lot,” Cortes said.

Bria Miller, a sophomore majoring in organizational communications and member of Alpha Omicron Pi, was out of breath after playing her third round.

“I would say I’m a professional roller now after playing so much,” Miller said.

Intramural athletes volunteered as coaches, referees and assistants, and Intramurals Coordinator David Tippett organized and supervised the games.

“We usually do this every year for homecoming, and there’s a lot of good stuff going down,” Tippett said.
