Former Ole Miss RB I’Tavius Mathers transferring to MTSU

Former Blackman High School running back I’Tavius Mathers announced on Thursday the he will be coming back to his hometown, starting classes on Tuesday.

The Murfreesboro-native will enroll for the spring semester, but will have to sit out the 2015 season, per NCAA rules. The running back will be available for the 2016 season.

Though he was primarily used as a backup during his tenure with the Ole Miss Rebels, Mathers collected 1,061 yards on 189 carries with seven rushing touchdowns for his career.

Mathers, a former 4-star recruit, was a Mr. Football award winner for the 2011 season. During his prep career, he set the school-rushing record at Blackman with 5,569 yards and 65 touchdowns.​
