A man charged with four counts of aggravated assault after firing at police officers last month will be heard in circuit court in early April, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Police responded to Eric Morgan, 20, for making suicidal threats in his home at Alder Terrace Apartments on East Main St. after his pastor Frederick Smith contacted police.

When officers attempted to speak with him, Morgan asked if they wanted to get shot. When an officer said “no,” Morgan replied “then bye,” according to a Murfreesboro police report.

After the officers’ “numerous attempts” to coax Morgan out of his home, a Special Operations unit was dispatched. When the unit entered his home, Morgan fired four shots.

MPD public information officer Kyle Evans said Morgan eventually surrendered to a robotic negotiator.
