Hip-hop artist Mac Miller released his third studio album GO:OD AM on September 18, 2015. The album has received positive reviews from longtime critics who complimented Miller on giving a more mature, focused approach to his stoner rap content.

The album is concentrated on Miller’s confession and acknowledgment of his past drug addictions, and the significance of his growing music career. In comparison to Miller’s sophomore album, GO:OD AM breaks the stereotype of those who claim Miller’s music is best suited for college parties.

The style of the sound in GO:OD AM offers an offbeat stoner rap concept, but it still includes a variety of melodies and vocal ranges. Miller stresses his triumphs and hardships in his personal life while rapping. At the end of a few songs, Miller is conversing with a friend at different times throughout his career.

Overall the album’s objective was to express Miller’s maturity, seriousness in his future endeavors, and his recovery from problems that he endured personally. Songs from the album like “Perfect Circle, ” God Speed,” “Ascension,” and “R.O.S.,” reveal a more delicate side of Miller compared to the carefree tracks like: “When in Rome,” “Cut the Check,” and “Break the Law.” Throughout all these songs, the album maintains a consistent balance of sounds within the tracks.

The complexity of Miller’s album has some fans feeling that he has digressed from his old sounds and became less exciting to listen to. In contrast, there is a significantly larger number of fans who believe that Miller’s transition from college-style music to a more focused, professional approach has made him a better artist in the genre.

Miller also released a limited edition “Breakfast Cereal Edition” of GO:OD AM, which includes a cereal box with cereal, a plastic cereal bowl and a surprise item along with the digital download. Fans could purchase this bundle immediately upon his official release of the album.

Miller is currently on an international tour in support of the album.

“My main thing is that I wanted to come back with something that was confident and some fun,” Miller said in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club talk show. “There’s nothing wrong with being fun.”

“There’s nothing wrong with feeling yourself, and that’s the headspace I wanted to get into before I came back,” Miller continued. “I didn’t want to come back depressed.”

The album is currently available for purchase in music stores and on iTunes.
