Two Murfreesboro Police officers were conducting a traffic stop Thursday on Greenland Drive at the corner of Gunnerson Avenue when a gun shot went off “in an extremely close vicinity,” according to the MPD police report.

The incident occurred around 7:51 p.m. Following the single gun shot, one officer observed a dark colored hatchback “flee at an extremely high rate of speed.”

A victim stated he was driving adjacent to the hatchback when the suspect fired at him from the hatchback. The officer located a bullet hole in the rear drivers side wheel well, but it is not clear if the hole is related to the incident.

A detective arrived and took over the investigation.
