One MTSU student was transported to Saint Thomas Rutherford on Saturday night after an argument with her roommate escalated into a stabbing in their Raiders Ridge apartment, according to Murfreesboro police.

Tamara Banks, 20, pulled a knife on her roommate, Diamonique McClung, also 20, following an argument. Banks told police her roommate was “getting smart with her” via text message and went into McClung’s room to confront her. Both women are junior behavioral sciences majors.

Banks came into McClung’s room, began to raise her voice at her roommate and told her “I ought to punch you in the mouth,” before physically assaulting her roommate. Banks  then left the room and retrieved a knife from the kitchen, according to the report.

McClung received several cuts to the back of her head and arm before mutual friends separated the two women, according to the report.

Banks told police that she did not intend to hurt McClung, but only scare her.

McClung was sent to St. Thomas Rutherford Medical Center for treatment.

Banks was charged with aggravated domestic assault. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 20.
