MTSU Sorority Life Recruitment 2014

Formal Recruitment has begun for the six Panhellenic Conference sororities at MTSU.

From now until registration ends on Sept. 18, sororities will be holding events to meet potential recruits.

“I think that MTSU should expect to see a lot more of sororities on campus,” said Megan Townsend, the Panhellenic Vice President of Recruitment. “We really are trying to get into our college community and make a difference.”

As students make their way to classes, they may notice doors being held open for them by women sporting their sorority letters.

Recruitment started on Tuesday with a “Give-Back Night” at Mellow Mushroom. Attendees wore yellow shirts as a show of solidarity among the sororities so potential recruits could get to know the Panhellenic community as a whole.

“People hear the word ‘sorority’ and they think of the stereotypical women they see in movies. We are nothing like that,” Townsend said. “We strive to be the best women we can be.”

Lauren, a recruitment counselor, agreed.

“Greek life is not just about making friendships and going out doing stuff. You’re focusing on your studies and making connections.”

Three more recruitment events are scheduled, including cleaning up the Greenway this Saturday, Sept. 6.
