Katy Perry Rocks Super Bowl Halftime Show

Katy Perry’s Super Bowl XLIX Halftime show lived up to expectations with a performance filled with her greatest hits and some special guests.

Perry, as always, kept her originality by entering the field wearing a flame-enhanced dress, singing her 2013 hit “Roar,” while riding the back of a giant, golden tiger set-piece. The stage then became an animated chessboard with dancers dressed as chess pieces for “Dark Horse.”

Next was the performance’s first special guest, Lenny Kravitz . He and Perry began singing Perry’s first hit, “I Kissed a Girl,” with an explosive accompanying pyrotechnics display. Perry kept the song going while Kravitz effortlessly played a guitar solo.

We got a taste of the cutesy side of Katy Perry for “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.” Smiling beach balls, dancing sharks and moving trees were eye-catching aspects of the beach-themed set.

Following “California Gurls,” the performance’s focus shifted tonight’s second guest, Missy Elliott. Elliott went into her 2001 classic “Get Ur Freak On.”  Perry reappears sporting a black and silver jersey to act as hype-woman through Elliot’s “Work It” and “Lose Control.” While a majority of Elliot’s portion was lip-synced, the heavily choreographed numbers were a welcome bit of nostalgia.

As Elliot’s time came to an end, lighted orbs filled the field and Perry went into “Firework.” Perry, wearing a sparkling silver dress covered with stars, ended her performance by flying across the field on a platform as fireworks were released from the stadium.

  1. Personally, I think that Katy Perry did an AMAZING job at the Super Bowl!!! It was one of the best I’ve seen since I’ve been watching. Katy Perry always does a good job when she performs. She has so much energy and she always tells a very interesting story. The dancing sharks added a great sense of humor to her performance. It was very family friendly. Her performances are also always full of color and life. At first I didn’t want to see her do the Halftime Show, but after I actually saw it I was pretty satisfied. I was very happy when she brought Missy Elliot onto the stage because I am a very BIG Missy Elliot fan. I think the Missy performance added a really nice touch seeing as though Missy has been gone from the scene for a while now. I have been hearing a lot of trash talking about her performance being compared to that of Beyonce who performed in 2013, and it kind of upsets me because they are two totally different styles of music. Katy Perry did her best during the performance and I think it was GREAT.
