Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam’s office has confirmed a new, more minimal logo will replace the tri-star and flags that have represented the state since 1905.
According to a release by WSMV, the state paid $46,000 to Nashville advertising and marketing company GS&F to design the new logo.
It was confirmed the logo will replace several others, according to the release by WSMV. A spokesman for Haslam’s office said part of the reason the new logo was necessary was to give the state a “unified look.”
In time, state officials said the logo will be on all signage and letterheads. Chris Butler, with watchdog.org, said he wonders how much more it will cost to integrate the logo and if it’s necessary.
“This is going to be a lot of taxpayer money,” Butler said to WSMV. “This is going to be a lot of time on behalf of state employees.”
A spokesperson for the governor’s office told WSMV the new logo will be implemented in a cost-effective way. For example, when stationary with the old logo runs out, the spokesperson said stationary with the new logo will then be used.
