Concertgoers were able to witness Americana rocker Greg Holden, as well as Nashville natives the Delta Saints and Moon Taxi, Thursday night at Live on the Green at Public Square Park.
U.K. singer Greg Holden started the night off strong. He wowed fans with his single “Hold on Tight.” Even members of the crowd who were not familiar with Holden’s catalogue could find a song or two to enjoy. His powerful stage presence combined with his ability to tell stories through his tunes made for a captivating performance.
Nashville-based rock group Delta Saints stormed the stage next with their raw rock ‘n’ roll sound. During the performance, lead singer Ben Ringel thanked fans for their support.
“You all are beautiful people, and we’re so stoked to be here!” Ringel said.
The Nashville group pounded through a barrage of original songs, and even surprised onlookers with a blues-inspired cover of Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 hit “The Chain”.
To end the night, one of the festival’s most anticipated act, Moon Taxi, took the stage. Much to Nashville’s excitement, the Belmont University-formed group was a surprise addition to this year’s lineup. The band kicked their performance off with two new singles from their upcoming album, slated to be released on October 2.
The band blew through song after song, including fan favorites from their 2012 album “Cabaret” and their 2013 album “Mountains Beaches Cities.” One stand-out moment from their set was a jam session between guitarists Trevor Terndrup and Spencer Thompson, keyboardist Wes Bailey and bassist Tommy Putnam. This medley of instrumental solos was backed by the precise percussion grooves of drummer Tyler Ritter. Terndrup addressed the crowd with a sentiment saying, “This is our sixth (time playing Live on the Green) and it’s been the best so far.”
On Sept. 10 fans can catch the likes of Colony House, Passion Pit and Ben Folds.
