For now, Middle Tennessee basketball fans can breathe a sigh of relief after rumors swirled, per NOLA.com, about MTSU head coach Kermit Davis and the head coaching vacancy at Memphis.

“All I’ll ever do is comment about the job I have, and I have a great one here at Middle Tennessee,” Davis said. “We’re very happy here.”

MTSU is coming off one of the largest upsets in NCAA Tournament history, beating second-ranked Michigan State. Following the win, and ensuing spotlight being put on the university, speculation began on what school could be the first to offer Davis a bigger contract than his current deal at MTSU.

Davis, 56, is currently under contract until the 2019 season, making $450,000 a season, and Davis said he’s had productive discussions with MTSU athletic director Chris Massaro and MTSU President Sidney McPhee.

“Chris [Massaro], Dr. McPhee and I have had some really good conversations about my future at MT,” he said. “I’m looking forward to next season.”

As of now, Davis and the Blue Raiders are entirely focused on recruiting and the quickly approaching National Signing Day deadline on Wednesday.

The Blue Raiders’ coaching staff hosted multiple recruits on Friday, including newly-committed point guard prospect Tyrik Dixon from Bentonville, Arkansas, giving the appearance that Davis is fully focused on coaching at MTSU for the foreseeable future.

Presbyterian transfer forward DeSean Murray, a First-Team All-Big South selection after averaging 20.2 points per game, is also expected to have his official visit with MTSU over the weekend.

Using the NCAA Tournament victory, Davis has been locked in on recruiting and said he’s excited to see what this year’s recruiting class will do for the upcoming season.
