A former MTSU history professor has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife.
Dr. James Huhta allegedly stabbed his wife, Mary Huhta, 79, with a kitchen knife several times in the stomach before leaping off the second-floor of their vacation home located in Singer Island, Florida.
While James Huhta was being transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained from the fall, the maintenance workers who had found him barely conscious in the bushes attempted to contact his wife. Instead, they found her unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds, allege workers.
The Huhtas were both contributors to preservation both locally and nationally. James Huhta played a large hand in the creation of MTSU’s Center for Historic Preservation, and Mary Huhta served as a Murfreesboro City Council member.
