Middle Tennessee women’s basketball (14-13, 9-6 CUSA) lost its second straight conference match on the road to Liberty University 65-37.
The Lady Raiders’ shooting woes continued as the team scored single-digit points in three quarters against the Flames.
Senior guard Alayna Contreras was seemingly the only bright spot for the Lady Raiders, putting up 18 total points, with 16 coming in the first half of the game.
The rest of the shooting core for Middle Tennessee struggled as the second-highest scorer was guard Macie Phifer, who scored six points and shot 3-of-16.
“We got to do a better job shooting the ball right now,” head coach Rick Insell said on WGNS radio.
The Lady Raiders struggled to establish their physical presence in the paint as the Flames center Emmy Stout dominated, scoring 14 points, shooting 5-of-11.
“We couldn’t guard her,” Insell said. “Overall, we just got to play better, we just didn’t play good.”
Stout made it a rough night for guard Blair Baugus and center Nicole Dominguez as they both found themselves in foul trouble.
Baugus picked up three personal fouls in the first half of the game and eventually fouled out, while Dominguez picked up four personal fouls before the end of the night.
Middle Tennessee will stay on the road to play the University of Delaware (12-16, 6-10 CUSA) on Saturday at 4 p.m. CDT to wrap up it’s last away games of the regular season.
