The Recording Industry Department announced a new Live Entertainment minor on Friday, which will be available next semester, according to an email from the Scott Borchetta College of Media & Entertainment.
The course, aimed at developing expertise in organizing, operating and supporting live events, spans across a variety of professional environments — from hospitality management to theater and dance. SBCME students interested in the new minor may talk with their advisor during this registration season.
The new minor will build upon courses in audio production, commercial songwriting, music business, theatre and dance, tourism and hospitality management.
“The program will help prepare you for a wide range of growing career opportunities in live entertainment,” the email said.
Michelle Conceison, the chair of the Department of Recording Industry, said the minor has been in the works for a while, and she’s excited for students to focus their studies and learn to work in live entertainment.
“We’ve had students who have tailored their study while they’re here to live entertainment, but on their degree it hasn’t said that,” Conceison said. “So I’m excited for students [who have focused on this area] to be recognized officially.”
