Darren Sirikoun, an MTSU student and a member of MTSU’s Phi Kappa Tau, died on Saturday evening due to complications with a strain of pneumonia.

Sirikoun, a junior studying psychology, was admitted to Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital on Tuesday, two days before his 22nd birthday. He is survived by his parents, sister and his brother.

Sirikoun was initiated into Phi Kappa Tau about a week before his death, according to Chapter President Colton Anderson.

“Darren was a leader who separated himself from his peers through his incredible intellect and honest love for the people around him. There are not enough letters on a keyboard to describe how awesome of a person Darren really was. Those who knew him during his brief 22 years will be blessed throughout the rest of their lives with his memory. He will be greatly missed every day,” Anderson said.

Phi Kappa Tau created a gofundme page on Sunday to benefit Sirikoun’s family as they pay for funeral expenses and medical bills. The page has raised around $3,000 in less than 24 hours.

Sirikoun’s friends and affiliates began posting to Facebook and other social media outlets over the weekend to show their support and remembrance for the MTSU student.

Services for Sirikoun will be held at Woodfin Memorial Chapel on Lascassas Pike in Murfreesboro at the end of the week. Visitation with the family will begin on Friday, March 31 at 4 p.m. and will last until 7 p.m. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1 at 2 p.m. There is also a candlelight service planned by Sirikoun’s friends for Wednesday night at Life Point Church in Smyrna.
