The Middle Tennessee softball team was defeated handily by national runner up Alabama, losing the first game 12-0 and the second contest 9-0 in a doubleheader.

Junior Kelci Cheney started the first game, allowing four earned runs on five hits in two innings. Senior Caitlin McClure pitched 2.2 innings and gave up seven runs against the Crimson Tide. Freshman Makenzie Prince made an appearance as well in the first matchup.

Junior Kiarra Freeman was the only Blue Raider to record a hit, and also added a stolen base. Alabama scored six runs in the bottom of the third and fifth innings to put Middle Tennessee away.

In the second game, sophomore Megan Chocallo started for the Blue Raiders and proved to struggle, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up five earned runs and four hits before being chased from the game.  Cheney and Prince came in to pitch the last 4.2 innings of the contest and gave up just three earned runs between the two pitchers.

Senior Alma Cortez and sophomore Lauren Riddell each picked up a single, recording MT’s only two hits of the second contest. Alabama continued its theme of scoring runs in bunches, putting up six runs in the first three innings before compiling three more runs in the final inning, picking up a 9-0 victory to complete the sweep.

The Blue Raiders will finish up fall play Friday in Murfreesboro, taking on Columbia State at 6 p.m. CT.
