Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is under investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation regarding the Rutherford County Jail’s involvement with the company JailCigs, according to a release by News Channel 5.
Arnold has been facing scrutiny recently after the Rutherford County Jail had been selling electronic cigarettes [e-cigs] to inmates. The e-cigs were being exclusively purchased from the company JailCigs, a company owned by Arnold’s aunt and uncle and Arnold’s neighbor and colleague Joe Russell.
Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Lisa Marchesoni told The Post that business between Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and JailCigs has been cut-off as of last Tuesday morning.
Arnold has been audited by the state since his relationship with JailCigs was discovered, but the TBI investigation will determine if his involvement is criminal activity or just a conflict of interests.
