Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and HBO executive Kary Antholis will speak to graduates at MTSU’s commencement ceremonies on Saturday.
Barry, who was elected as Music City’s first female mayor last year, will speak to graduates of the Basic & Applied Sciences, Business, Education and Media & Entertainment colleges during the Saturday morning ceremony at 9 a.m. Before being elected Mayor of Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County, she was had a 20-year career as an ethics compliance officer and served as a Metro Council Member starting in 2007. Since being elected, she has advocated for the creative communities in Nashville and led anti-youth-violence summits.
Antholis, the President of HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming, will speak at the 2 p.m. ceremony for Behavorial & Health Sciences, Liberal Arts and University College grads. He began at HBO in 1992 and oversaw the development of documentary series such as Educating Peter and Gang War: Bangin’ in Little Rock. He later went on to produce and direct the Oscar-winning documentary One Survivor Remembers and oversaw mini-series including John Adams and The Pacific.
Additionally, Dr. Carroll Van West, an MTSU history professor and Tennessee’s state historian, will address Graduate Studies students at Friday’s 3 p.m. commencement.
