Murfreesboro Police respond to possible explosives found at Ashwood Cove Apartments

Update: Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed Thursday morning that the mortars were live 

Murfreesboro Police responded to a backpack containing possible explosives that was found at Ashwood Cove Apartments on North Tennessee Boulevard near a trash compactor Wednesday morning.

Upon arrival, the officers found that the backpack contained several mortar rounds and a training hand grenade.

The THP Bomb Squad, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Federal Bureau of Investigation then responded to the scene to investigate further.

It is unknown at this time whether any of the explosives were real.
