Middle Tennessee sent its men’s tennis team to Knoxville, Tennessee, to take on opponents from across the country in the ITA Ohio Valley Regional. Eight players competed for MTSU, including 18th-ranked Gonzalo Morell Raschiatore.

In the round of 128, five of the team’s eight players advanced; Raschiatore, Jan Porteset, Chris Edge, Max Rauch and Gian Issa all moved past the first round of play.

Raschiatore and Rauch also advanced past the round of 64, before being defeated in the round of 32.

Another notable performance came from Miguel Fernandez. While he didn’t pass the round of 128, he won three consecutive matches in the consolation round.

Even more impressive was Tom Moonen’s showing. After losing in the round of 128, he defeated six consecutive opponents in the consolation round to put together an all-around solid showing for the regional.

Overall, Middle Tennessee went 20-11 in all of their matches and delivered a promising stretch of games heading closer into the regular season. They’ll look to keep the pace this weekend at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Virginia, the final match of the team’s fall schedule.
