MTSU associate head men’s basketball coach Wes Long announced he is leaving the program, according to a post on his Instagram account.
Long’s Instagram bio now includes Kansas State University basketball, as new Wildcats head coach Casey Alexander continues to build his staff.
Kansas State has yet to announce Long’s hiring or his role within the program.
The Wildcats hired Alexander after he led Belmont University to a 26-6 record and the first overall seed in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. The Bruins fell to Drake University in the second round of the MVC tournament.
Long’s primary responsibility as the Blue Raiders’ defensive coordinator saw the development of multiple big men who won awards.
One year standout Essam Mostafa earned Conference USA newcomer of the year and all-first team honors under Long. Recent portal entries Torey Alston and Chris Loofe ended the 2025-2026 season in the program’s top 10 for blocks with 69 and 100, respectively.
Before Middle Tennessee, Long coached one year at the University of North Carolina at Asheville before following current MTSU head coach Nick McDevitt to Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
