As Black History Month begins, MTSU’s African American student organizations are showing up with pride. Here are five events students can look forward to as MTSU celebrates 100 years of Black History.
Kick Off Tabling: Feb. 3, 2026
Sponsored by all organizations, groups will set up in the Student Union Atrium from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to inform people about different African American organizations on campus. The tabling will include several different organizations, including Collegiate 100, S.W.E.E.T. Melanin, African Student Organization and more.
Live at Lunch: Feb. 11, 2026
MTSU Student Programming and Raider Entertainment, better known as SPARE, will sponsor live at lunch featuring Khyi’trell Wilson in the Student Union Atrium at 11 a.m.
Wilson is a singer-songwriter who won last year’s “Showtime at the Apollo” hosted by the Black Student Union.
A Night in Africa: Afrofest Fashion Show: Feb. 13, 2026
The African Student Organization presents “A Night in Africa: Afrofest Fashion Show” for the second year in a row. The show includes seven “scenes” that showcase Black History, and this year’s theme, Afrofest. In a post on ASO’s Instagram, the organization showcases a moodboard of looks, encouraging attendees to wear streetwear and festival-style outfits. Admission is free, and the show will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom.
Showtime at the Apollo: Feb. 20, 2026
“It’s Showtime at the Apollo” aired from 1987 to 2008, but still holds a captive audience today through reruns and specials. Using this show as a template, the Black Student Union hosts its own “Showtime at the Apollo” event in the Student Union Ballroom beginning at 6 p.m.
This is a free, interactive event where participants showcase their talents on stage, with the audience as judges.
A Century of Excellence Gala: Feb. 26, 2026
To wrap up the month, a gala will be hosted in the Student Union Ballroom beginning at 7 p.m. This event is sponsored by all organizations and will celebrate “a Century of Black Excellence.”
