As students juggle classes, jobs and campus life, finding the right place to focus can make or break a study session. Here are five spots some MTSU students turn to when it’s time to get to work.
The Walker Library
The James E. Walker Library remains the most popular study spot on campus. Whether students want total silence, a group room or a window seat overlooking the quad, the library continues to be the go‑to place when it’s time to “lock in.”
Junior Kaleb Hollings says one room in particular helps him focus like nothing else.
“My favorite study spot is the library, specifically room 464C,” Hollings said. “I really love that room because it allows me to truly lock in, and once I have that study room to myself there’s nobody that can stop me.”
Junior Alondré Jenkins prefers a more scenic setup.
“My favorite study spot is the library,” Jenkins said. “I enjoy sitting right beside the windows looking out, seeing the people cross. Very nice, very relaxing.”
The Student Union balcony
Following the library in popularity is the Student Union balcony, a spot that blends fresh air with a calm atmosphere. It’s one of the few places on campus where you can study outside without the usual noise and foot traffic.
Junior Katelynn Fouse says the environment makes all the difference.
“I would say my favorite spot to study is the Student Union balcony,” Fouse said. “It’s peaceful, and when the weather is perfect it gives me the opportunity to actually lock in and do schoolwork.”
BAS Study Hub
The Business and Aerospace Building has a hidden gem many students swear by: The BAS Study Hub. It’s quiet, tucked away and ideal for students who want to avoid the flow of students and noise.
Senior Alena Munnings says privacy is what keeps her coming back.
“My favorite study spot is the study hub over at the BAS because it’s so private and secluded,” Munnings said. “I get to focus on one thing without being distracted by everything else going on around campus.”
Corlew classroom
Another spot students mentioned isn’t a lounge or a library room, it’s a classroom in Corlew Hall. The space is quiet, tucked away, and gives students a break from the usual campus noise, making it a practical option for anyone who needs a little extra room to work.
Sophomore Jasmine James says the room’s features make it especially useful.
“My favorite study spot is the Corlew classroom because we’re allowed to reserve it and have space to ourselves,” James said. “There’s also a big screen so I can see all my work on a bigger platform than just my computer.”
NPHC Suite
Another study location is the National Pan-Hellenic Council Suite, a space many students may not think of as a study area, but those who use it say it’s one of the most reliable quiet spots on campus.
Junior Sidney Ware says the privacy and resources make it ideal.
“My favorite spot is probably the NPHC suite because it’s very secluded and not many people are in there,” Ware said. “It also has a laptop with a webcam, so if I need to take a proctored exam, it’s easy for me to do that. It’s just a good spot for me to chill and get some work done.”
From the library’s familiar quiet to more hidden gems like Corlew and the NPHC suite, MTSU students have carved out their own corners of campus to stay focused and strive for success. No matter the major or workload, there’s a study spot for everyone, sometimes in the most surprising places.
