Tennessee Highway Patrol prepares for Bonnaroo traffic

Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is preparing for an estimated 80,000 visitors to pass through Tennessee this weekend.

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival  takes place on a farm in Manchester off exit 111 on Interstate 24. Gates to the farm will open Wednesday at 8 p.m. with the festival lasting from Thursday until Sunday. The gates are opening earlier this year to allow more time for vehicles to enter the festival campgrounds.

Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and THP will take the following steps to help the flow of traffic on I-24 June 9-12:

  • Exit 111 will be used as the main festival exit, with exits 97, 105 and 112 being used as alternate exits if traffic congestion occurs.
  • TDOT says there will be no construction-related road closures near Manchester from June 8 until June 13.
  • Festival traffic will be kept in the right lane or on the shoulder of the interstate.
  • THP will have 24 hour coverage of the festival to promote safety, both on the ground and in the air.
