Fall Fashion Essentials

The leaves are changing, Starbucks is re-introducing the Pumpkin Spice Latte and game day is upon us — it’s officially autumn.

In addition to the traditional, fall means a brand new year in fashion. Autumn brings debut collections from A-list designers and most importantly what you will be wearing for the year ahead. It may take time to find the right fall look for you, but when all is said and done the garments on the runway will inspire what’s on the rack. These pieces will bring style and practicality to your wardrobe.

The first fall necessity is a dark wash denim jean. Jeans with a darker rinse kill three birds with one stone: they look stylish, keep you warm and are  easy to coordinate with.

The next fall essential is a jean jacket. While a darker denim never fails an outfit, a faded denim jacket adds edge and interest to an outfit for someone looking for a less conventional look.

If you’re looking for the right shoes for your outfit, Oxfords, a modern reinterpretation of a classic 1920s men’s shoe, satisfy the need for comfort and work as a unisex, incredibly stylish shoe. College students have been shopping in thrift stores way before Macklemore did, so feel free to search for a used pair at the nearest Goodwill outlet. Oxfords work similarly to Converse — if they’re not a little rugged, you’re doing it wrong.

Patterned scarves can play a key role in any outfit. The great thing about a scarf is that it can add a pattern to any ensemble, and you don’t have to commit to it all day like you would a top or a bottom. This should be especially helpful to those who you who struggle with figuring out how to add personality to your look without feeling like a Project Runway reject.

The final fall must-have is the dependable flannel button up in any color that you like. To stray from the typical, try wearing your flannel underneath a buttoned up denim jacket. Pairing those two pieces with a solid, bold-colored scarf will give you an effortlessly chic vibe that every college fashionista dreams of but is usually too lazy to achieve.
