McMinnville-based rock group As Yourself is not new to the music scene, and it shows in the amount of experience brought to their soon-to-be-released self-titled record and to their live performances.
On Saturday at 6:00 p.m. the music video for their first single “Rise of the Flatline” will be shot at VFW Post 5064 in McMinnville, and the band is looking for any volunteers to be extras.
“If you come to the video, you’ll get a free copy (of the record); it doesn’t cost you anything, no gimmicks nothing like that, we’re not going to spam your email,” said guitarist Tony Grissom.
You don’t have to sign up or RSVP to participate in the video shoot.

Next month, As Yourself will also be releasing their self-titled debut on Oct. 23rd. This six-song EP was produced inside Grissom’s personal studio, Verona Valley Studios, and was co-produced entirely by members Craig Hollis and Tony Grissom.
“We all kind of grew up listening to different things, whether it be pop-punk to alternative to heavy rock-metal,” said guitarist and co-producer Craig Hollis. “I think we all kind of have eclectic taste . . . they just kind of all came together (on the record).”
Although this is the band’s first record, these boys are no strangers to the process of creating music. Each one of them has been in other bands since high school and has built up his stage presence and credibility when playing live shows; some of them started out as just stage hands before actually picking up an instrument.
“I started out with lugging around speakers for a DJ business that would play the boots and pants music and people would be going crazy,” said Grissom, who co-produced the new record. “That’s how I ended up getting into the live engineering side of things where I would go and mix bands live.”
As Yourself arrives Oct. 23 via CDBaby, Amazon, and iTunes. Listeners can get a free preview on Pandora and Spotify.
