National Weather Service predicts 20 degree drop

After a week of record heat, a cold front on Thursday is expected to drop Middle Tennessee temperatures fast, according to Matt Reagan from the National Weather Service.

The cold front is predicted to take recent temperatures from the upper 80 degrees to the lower 60 degrees by Friday, causing a 20 degree drop overnight.

“The last two days in Nashville we actually tied the record of 86 degrees on Monday and 87 degrees yesterday, and we’re running about 15 to almost 20 degrees above normal,” Reagan said.

Normally expected around this time of the year is a temperature high of 71 degrees and a low of 48 degrees. Reagan also explained that this October has been unusually dry, with the Nashville Airport only receiving 0.07 inches of rain for the whole month.

“That does look to change. [The cold front] will bring in a chance of showers and storms. Behind that the cooler air will filter in,” Reagan said.

He added that when the temperature bounces back from the cold front it will still be slightly above normal.

“We won’t be seeing upper 80’s again, but it will rebound a little bit next week. It looks like mid-70 next week,” Reagan said.

Before the week heats up again, Saturday’s morning forecast is expected to be about 42 degrees, followed by 48 degrees Sunday morning.
