Middle Tennessee head basketball coach Kermit Davis is known for going after versatile, tough and high-flying players from Perrin Buford to current Raiders’ Antwain Johnson and JaCorey Williams. Blue Raider fans will soon add another name to that group, Therren Shelton-Szmidt.

Last Friday night, during the second quarter of a matchup with The Tech Academy, the 6-foot-5 guard found himself on a one-on-one breakaway with 7-footer Makur Maker, brother of Milwaukee Buck center Thon Maker. Shelton-Szmidt would not only make the basket, but posterize his opponent in the process.

The Chattanooga product, originally from Canada, comes from a high school enriched in basketball tradition. At Hamilton Heights Academy, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nickeil Alexander-Walker are committed to Kentucky and Virginia Tech, respectively.

However, the MTSU signee still lead his team in scoring last season. Shelton-Szmidt averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game as a junior going up against prominent prep schools such as Oak Hill Academy and Westtown School. The signee will also make an instant impact for the Blue Raiders with his shooting ability, as he boasted a 91 percent average from the free throw line last year.

With much to look forward to from the young man, here is one more look at the slam dunk from a different angle:
