The Middle Tennessee women’s tennis team fought back from an early deficit to defeat the Lady Techsters tennis team by a final score of 4-2.
The Blue Raiders found themselves in an early hole, as LA Tech dominated the doubles portion of the match. Although each were really competitive, Tech took the first two matches to take the doubles point, winning 6-4 in match no.1 and 7-5 in match no.2.
Though they found themselves down early, Middle Tennessee was not deterred and showed their heart in the singles portion. Josefina Zehnder started the rally for the Blue Raiders by defeating LA Tech’s Jazmin Britos in three sets, winning 6-3 in the first set, and 6-4 in the final set.
Lidia Burrows took the first set of her match by a score of 6-4 but lost the following two sets to put the Blue Raiders within a point of losing the match.
The Blue Raiders once again showed their heart, as Costanza Magazzini, Luisa Zirilli and Marta Peris Herrero won the next three matches to take the game for MTSU.
Maggazzini won the third match in straight sets, defeating her opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-0. Zirilli won the first set in her matchup 6-3, but lost the second set 4-6. She held her composure and won the decisive third set by a score of 6-2.
Herrero took the victory for MT with a 7-6, (8-6), 6-0 and the Blue Raiders left New Orleans as winners.
