The family of the late MTSU first lady, Elizabeth “Liz” McPhee, announced her funeral arrangements on Saturday afternoon.
Belle Aire Baptist Church of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, will hold McPhee’s visitation on Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 3 to 7 p.m. The funeral will follow on Wednesday, Jan. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. Woodfin Funeral Chapel is handling all arrangements.
The family requests memorials be made in McPhee’s name to the MTSU Foundation, Campus Box 109, Murfreesboro, TN 37132, or online at www.mtsu.edu/give. Memorials may also be directed to the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital Foundation, for which McPhee served as a board member. The requested notation is “In Memory of Elizabeth McPhee” for all submissions.
McPhee devoted her life to education long before serving as MTSU’s first lady for a quarter century, teaching third grade for 40 years before retiring in 2018.
She died on Thursday following a “brief illness” at the age of 72.
McPhee is survived by her husband of 45 years, MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee; their son, Sidney-Anthony McPhee; their daughter, Seneca Ann McPhee; and the McPhee family, according to MTSU Board of Trustees chair Stephen Smith.
