As Murfreesboro, Tennessee, enters day three of snow, ice and freezing rain, main roads in the city are drivable, while secondary roads remain icy and dangerous, according to a Facebook post made by Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland. He also urged the community to stay home and check on neighbors.
MTSU hasn’t announced whether classes will resume on Wednesday yet, but students can expect an announcement sometime tomorrow, said Jimmy Hart, a university spokesman.
Wi-Fi on campus has been spotty, and Hart could not confirm if any buildings have reported power outages.
What buildings and services are open and running?
City Hall and city facilities, except essential services, closed all day Monday. The airport terminal and runway, the Murfreesboro Police Department lobby and administrative offices are closed.
Murfreesboro utilities are performing well, but community members should not expect trash pickup, McFarland’s post said.
The city has also canceled its public transit. WeGo public transit will end service at 6:15 p.m. Monday and resume 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Both Murfreesboro City Schools and Rutherford County Schools will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday.
Power outage and road statuses
Thousands of community members remain without power, and while Middle Tennessee Electric CEO Chris Jones said that crews are working tirelessly, not everyone will have power restored within 24 hours.
A majority of the outages — around 7,980 — are being caused by fallen tree limbs, according to a Facebook post by Middle Tennessee Electric. The Middle Tennessee Electric website offers a map of outages in the area.
Twenty roads remain closed in Rutherford County, according to the Road Closure Dashboard on the county’s website.
