The MTSU Lady Raiders soccer team beat Murray State Racers 1-0 in overtime on Friday night.
In the first half, Murray lead in posession. Although the Raiders offense struggled to make it down field, the defense, lead by keeper Kelsey Brouwer blocked seven corner kicks and a shot on goal, keeping them in the game.
After having been supressed in the first half, the Raiders came out fighting, dominating posession for nearly the entire second half. Despite the Raiders’ efforts, each of their shots-on-goal were missed, leaving the match tied at the end of the 90minutes.
To break the tie, the match went into “golden-goal” overtime. With ten minutes on the clock, the teams raced to get the goal for the win. With less than two minutes left in the game, forward Grace Stewart broke away from Murray defense. This set up mid-fielder Angie Lai for her game-winning score.
