Murfreesboro Police responded to a call about an armed man making suicidal threats at a local apartment complex Monday night, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.
Eric Morgan, 20, was allegedly making suicidal threats at his resident in Alder Terrace Apartments. Before arrival, police were advised that Morgan could be armed with a .9 millimeter handgun.
Murfreesboro police attempted to persuade Morgan outside of his apartment. Morgan “refused and insisted that the officers come inside the apartment,” according to the incident report.
MPD Public Information Officer Kyle Evans said Morgan fired from an apartment window as officers attempted to deploy tear gas into the building.
Morgan eventually surrendered to a robotic negotiator, Evans said.
When Morgan could not convince the officers to go inside of the apartment he became beligerant with the officers. Morgan began “yelling angrily” at the officers and asked one if he “wanted to get shot,” according to the incident report.
After repeated attempts to coax Morgan from his apartment, the Special Operations Unit was activated and attempted to enter the residence. Morgan fired multiple shots at the officers as they proceeded inside of the apartment.
Morgan was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault.
Neither Morgan nor any officers were injured during the incident. Morgan was transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital for evaluation.
His bond has been set at $150,000.
