The Blue Raider softball team traveled to Nashville on Wednesday afternoon for a midweek contest against in-state foe Tennessee State University, falling to the Tigers by a final score of 7-4.
Due to early errors from the Blue Raider defense, the Tigers scraped three runs across the plate to put themselves up 3-0 early. The Blue Raiders made a case that they were not going away easily, answering with a run of their own in the top of the third.
The game remained at 3-1 until the Raiders tied the game at three in the top of the sixth. The tie did not last long, however, as the Tigers broke the game open by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 7-3.
The Blue Raiders tried to come back in the seventh as Kristin Uselton reached on an error. Lauren Payne came in to pinch run for her and eventually scored.
This is all the Blue Raiders could get going in the seventh, however, and they ultimately fell to the Tigers by a final of 7-4.
Cori Jennings struck out two but picked up the loss in the circle, moving her to 5-8 on the season.
Though the scoreboard suggested otherwise, the team’s Earned Run Average stayed at an outstanding 2.56 clip as all seven runs were unearned.
