MTSU baseball’s trip to Charlotte didn’t start how they wanted it to, losing 10-2 to the 49ers. Following a five game winning streak, the Blue Raiders have now lost two in a row. MTSU wasn’t able to string together very much offense Friday, scoring only two runs after it was too late.

Charlotte 5th inning proved too much for MTSU

MTSU gave up a hit with the first at-bat of the fifth inning. Starting pitcher AJ Spencer was able to strike out the next batter. A Charlotte double would put men on second and third with one out.

Riley Delgado was able to collect a web gem to get the second out of the inning, but things started to go downhill after the diving play.

Spencer walked a batter to load the bases with two outs. A Charlotte double would bring in two runs and make the score 3-0.

A single to right field would bring another two runners across, making it 5-0. The next play would also be a single to right field, which brought in Charlotte’s last run of the inning and put the Blue Raiders at a 6-0 deficit going into the sixth inning.

MTSU was able to fight back a little in the sixth, after Delgado got a single to start the inning. A Ryan Kemp home run brought in two men for the Blue Raiders, but the deficit given up in the fifth inning proved to be too much for MTSU.

What’s next?

The Blue Raiders are scheduled to continue their series with Charlotte in a doubleheader on Saturday, with start times at 1 pm and 4:30 pm.
