The MTSU Police Department is searching for suspects accused of theft from the university’s baseball clubhouse.
Police said two individuals unlawfully entered the clubhouse during the early hours of May 12 and stole equipment totaling $7,000, including several high-end baseball gloves.
“We are actively investigating a burglary to one of our sports facilities where sports equipment was stolen,” MTSU Police Chief Ed Kaup said. “Detectives from MTSU PD are gathering evidence and following leads to bring the offenders to justice. They are also working with other jurisdictions who’ve experienced like crimes.”
Police ask those with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867 (STOP). Information leading to an arrest can make the tipster eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
“If you wish to speak directly with a detective about this case, please contact Det. Lt. Kim Rednour at 615-494-8872, or by email at [email protected],” MTSU police said. “People with information who contact Det. Lt. Rednour directly will not be eligible for the reward.”
Rednour said significant progress has been made in the case due to the cooperation of several local police departments and sports equipment shops, but more information is needed.
The MTSU theft is the latest case in a recent local trend of stolen sports gear. Last weekend, Metro Nashville Police announced the theft of 13 Nashville Sounds’ baseball gloves from First Horizon Baseball Park.
Police took two 17-year-olds into custody for the theft on Monday, after the pair sold the gloves to Play It Again Sports in Brentwood, Tennessee. The shop owner became suspicious of the gloves’ origin and turned the gear over to police.
The two teens are still under investigation for similar thefts across Middle Tennessee, according to MNPD. An identified suspect from the MTSU case was linked to one at the theft at the Sounds’ stadium, according to Rednour.
