A Middle Tennessee State University professor has postponed a trip from Key West, Florida to Seattle in a vehicle fueled by waste chicken fat and waste vegetable oil from school dining facilities.
According to a statement from MTSU, alternatives fuels researcher Cliff Ricketts made the decision on Tuesday outside Kansas City due to a major mechanical breakdown and the potential for severe weather and cold temperatures.
The School of Agribusiness and Agriscience faculty member was attempting to drive a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit pickup truck on the 3,550-mile trek.
Ricketts began his journey on Nov. 6. He says he will resume it in March or May.
