The Rutherford County Judicial Building was evacuated due to a gas leak after a strong smell was reported in the building around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Rutherford County police received a call about building employees having minor symptoms after coming in contact with the mail.
Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue, Murfreesboro Police, Rutherford County Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, and Tennessee Bureau of Investigations all responded to the news by evacuating the building, blocking it from civilians to prevent further conditions, and, of course, tending to those exhibiting symptoms.
“We are going to be here a while,” said Marchesoni,”We are currently investigating and decontaminating the building.”
According to Rutherford County Public Information Officer Lisa Marchesoni, only one of the affected employees was brought to St. Thomas Rutherford hospital.
“I have not heard anything about a bomb threat. Please put those rumors to rest. We don’t yet know what it was, but will share updates in the investigtion,” Marchesoni said when asked if the threat was, in fact, a bomb.
