MTSU guard Giddy Potts has been ruled out indefinitely after suffering a concussion during Thursday night’s 78-72 loss against Western Kentucky, an MTSU Athletic Department release stated.

Towards the end of the first half of last night’s loss, Potts took an inadvertent elbow to the head from a WKU player.

Due to a bloody nose, Potts was forced to come out of the game. He stayed on the bench for a few minutes during the cleanup, before returning to the game minutes later.

He went on to play the remainder of the game, seemingly with no physical problem.

The following morning, Potts went to MTSU trainer Chris Harris before a film session and practice, saying he was going through “some headaches.”

“I didn’t notice anything,” MTSU coach Kermit Davis said. “We had a film session at 6:30 in the morning and [Giddy] was there. Chris [Harris] came to me an hour later and said that Giddy was going through some headaches, so they had him checked out and ruled him out indefinitely.”

No timetable has been set for Potts’ return, and he will be re-evaluated early next week to assess his progress.

“He’ll be re-evaluated early next week,” Davis said. “Hopefully Monday they’ll look at him to see how he’s progressing.”

Potts came away last night leading the team with 19 points and 12 rebounds. He also shot 4-of-9 from three-point range.

Earlier this year, the Blue Raiders were forced to play without Potts during his four-game academic probation, with MTSU going 2-2 without him.

Potts is the second Blue Raider to suffer concussion problems, with guard Jacob Ivory also out for the remainder of the season after suffering another concussion before MTSU’s contest against Southern Miss.

Middle Tennessee is back in action Saturday night when they host the Thundering Herd (16-14, 7-9 C-USA), a game in which the Blue Raiders came up short on the road earlier this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
