BREAKING: MPD obtains warrant in MTSU Animal Abuse case

A Murfreesboro Police Department detective has obtained a warrant for Cruelty to Animals against former Middle Tennessee linebacker Shalom Alvarez, according to MPD Public Information Officer Kyle Evans.

The initial accusations arose on April 12 after a Snapchat video of Alvarez hitting a dog was posted to the account of another ex-Blue Raider, Justin Akins. In the video, Alvarez is seen striking the dog multiple times while making derogatory comments aimed at the dog.

MTSU Head Football Coach Rick Stockstill announced on Friday that both players were dismissed from the program after the investigation started, stating that their actions “violated the values and standards of our program.”

Alvarez joined the team in 2016 but never appeared in any games for the Blue Raiders.
