While movie studios struggled to make movies that caught my interest towards the end of 2023, television has had me entertained for the vast majority of the end of the year. Now in 2024, I am slowly wrapping up all the late releases of the previous and getting ready for the upcoming releases for this year.

Unsurprisingly, a majority of the series I am most looking forward to come from companies in Asia. Most of this series unfortunately do not have a set release date, but have either been in the works since 2022 or recently announced in the studio lineups that happen every year.

There are, however, a few American series that I am excited for, so here are my top five series that are coming out later this year.

5. “The Penguin”

In classic comic book fashion “The Batman” ended up inspiring the creation of a spin-off series focused on the DC villain Penguin. The series will take place a week after the events of the film and explore how Penguin rose in power in Gotham’s criminal underworld. The series has no set release date, but it is set to release in late 2024.

4. “Avatar The Last Airbender”

One series that so many people have been looking forward to is the live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” While I myself was not a huge fan of the cartoon, I have certainly watched the animated show more than once.

After seeing Disney’s live action version of the “Percy Jackson” book series, it will be great to see how Netflix’s adaptation of a different beloved series turns out. It will also be interesting to see how this adaptation holds up against the movie version that came out in 2010.

The release date for this series is Feb. 22, and long term fans know that the original series released on Feb. 21. Now you can celebrate the nineteenth anniversary of the series with the new adaptation.

3. “The Umbrella Academy” Season two

“The Umbrella Academy” is by far one of the best shows to drop on Netflix, and after three seasons the conclusion is now near. The story of the Hargreeves siblings has been long. They have stopped the end of the world many times now, and with the twists from the end of season three, I am ready to see everything wrapped up neatly.

The series has yet to announce its exact release date, but Netflix has confirmed its release for some point in 2024. If you have not seen the series, now is the time to catch up on these super siblings.

2. “Hazbin Hotel”

Vivienne Medrano, better known as Vivziepop, released the pilot of Hazbin Hotel in 2020, amassing more than 40 millions views. Since then, fans of the pilot have been waiting for more, and finally the season premiere is Jan. 19. Even though it has not aired yet, a second season has already been announced to be in development.

While the original cast is not returning, the new cast is extremely noteworthy. The show is a musical series, so it’s no surprise that the cast of “Hazbin Hotel” is full of many noteworthy Broadway performers such as Erika Henningsen Kimiko Glenn. The most pleasant surprise for me is that Stepahnie Beatriz would be voicing Vaggie in the series.

1. “Arcane” Season two

The number one on my list is none other than the second season of “Arcane.” Even though I am a video game fanatic, League of Legends is not the kind of game I tend to play. I gave the first season a shot based on the positive reviews from both fans of the game and newcomers.

I was impressed by the amazing animation as well as the story of the characters within this world. I await to see what awaits Vi, Caitlyn and Jinx in this new season. Season two has no definitive release date, but it has been slated for a November release.
