Middle Tennessee (10-7, 4-2 C-USA) traveled to Denton, Texas to take on the North Texas Mean Green (7-9, 2-4 C-USA) on Thursday evening. The Blue Raiders soared to a 76-52 win over their conference opponent, behind improving post play.
The Blue Raiders bounced back from their devastating loss last Saturday at home on a half-court heave, ending the game in stunning fashion. However, MT never trailed in this one, as they began to pull away in the third quarter going on 12-0 run. The team enjoyed their best shooting night of the season, as the team shot 31-54, a blistering 57.4 percent from the field.
Senior guard Brea Edwards recorded a game high 17 points and pulled down eight boards. Ty Petty delivered another strong game, as the junior guard chipped in 16 points to go along with four assists.
A couple of the Blue Raider underclassmen were red-hot from the field. Freshman forward Alex Johnson had her way with the Mean Green defense, scoring 12 points off 75 percent shooting from the field. Sophomore Abbey Sissom broke out to the tune of 12 points off of 71 percent shooting.
MT’s great defense showed up yet again, creating 11 steals; however, they had 23 turnovers of their own. This marks the team’s 13th straight win over their conference rival North Texas.
The Blue Raiders will travel to Houston to take on the Rice Owls (3-14, 2-4 C-USA) on Jan. 23, as tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
