On Friday afternoon, when it was sunny and 75 degrees, music was in the air at “Monaroo,” an annual festival held every spring at Monohan residence hall.
For over four hours, several artists took to the stage, while residents flocked to listen and enjoy free food and drink, courtesy of MTSU Housing and Residential Life.
This was the first time organizers turned the event into an open mic event, letting artists drift in and out to perform. Most artists were great about sticking around to support the others.
This is also Monaroo’s first time supporting Relay for Life, the primary fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Monohan Hall’s Area Coordinator Christy Scates said that they raised over $50 through the pie-in the-face fundraiser where students could pay $1 to pie a Resident Assistant in the face, $3 to pie a Resident Director and $5 to pie an Area Coordinator.
Monaroo was Housing & Residential Life’s first show of support for the big Relay for Life event on April 6 in the MTSU Recreation Center, where they will also be hosting a booth.
