Dippers Chicken to replace Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen next Thursday

MTSU closed its Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen location in the Student Union Building last Friday. Dippers Chicken will replace the popular food chain and is expected to open May 18. Like Popeyes, Dippers will accept FlexBucks and offer Meal Equivalency during lunch and dinner meal periods.

Some students expressed mixed emotions about the move, and many students have never heard of Dippers Chicken.

“It’s not really a big deal because it’s happening at other schools,” said junior Jadai Brooks.  I think it’s a good idea because the workers at Popeyes are rude, unprofessional, and it’s dirty.”

“I love Popeyes,” said sophomore Vanisa Khemanivong. “It doesn’t make a lot of sense because this Popeyes makes a lot of money. I don’t think Dippers will do well the first year, but I’ll try it.”

Nicole Lastra, the location manager, explained, “Burger King bought out Popeyes. In order to keep the brand image the same, they wanted to remove all non-traditional locations, which are locations that are on college campuses, food courts and any location that (does not) stand alone and has a drive-thru.” Astra also said that MTSU and Aramark partnered together to choose Dippers to replace Popeyes.

Former Popeyes employees will have the option of working at Dippers.

Grand-opening festivities will take place the August 28–31, 2017 during Week of Welcome.  Events will include sampling and prize giveaways.
