MTSU football announced the addition of two new members to its offensive staff this afternoon.
The Blue Raiders hired Anthony Scelfo to fill the offensive coordinator vacancy after head coach Derek Mason dismissed Bodie Reeder on Dec. 9. Scelfo will also serve as the quarterbacks coach for Middle Tennessee.
Christopher Browne also joins the staff for MTSU as the offensive line coach, filling a role previously held by Kendall Simmons. Simmons resigned from his post on Nov. 4.
“Anthony and Chris are outstanding additions to our staff, and we’re thrilled to have them join our program,” Mason said in a press release. “They each bring an established identity to our offense, strong recruiting backgrounds and a clear understanding of what it takes to win at a high level. Most importantly, they are aligned with our vision for the future, and we’re excited about the impact they’ll have on our players and our culture.”
Scelfo comes to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, after holding the same positions at Southeastern Louisiana University for the last five seasons. Most recently, Scelfo guided the Lions to a 9-4 record and a berth in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs while working under his father, head coach Frank Scelfo.
Four players earned second team All-Southland Conference honors under Scelfo’s guidance, while the SLU offense ranked 32nd in scoring at the FCS level and 22nd in red zone efficiency.
“Anthony is a bright, innovative offensive mind who understands how to build an offense around his personnel,” Mason said. “He’s been heavily involved in quarterback development, game planning and recruiting, and his track record of production speaks for itself. We’re excited to have his energy and leadership guiding our offense.”
Before being named offensive coordinator at SLU, Scelfo served as the wide receiver coach, tight end coach and recruiting coordinator positions for the Lions. Previous stops include a three-year stint at Northwestern State as the quarterbacks coach, pass game coordinator and the team’s recruiting coordinator. His coaching career began with two years as a graduate assistant at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Scelfo played both football at baseball at Tulane University, finding more success on the baseball diamond for the Green Wave. He was drafted in the eighth round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays and spent four years in their minor league system.
MTSU brings Browne to the staff after spending the 2025 season with the University of Arkansas, where he served as an offensive line assistant as well as an assistant run game coordinator. The Razorbacks were third in the Southeastern Conference in rushing and finished in the top 30 nationally during Browne’s lone season with the program.
Previous stops for Browne include serving as the offensive line coach at Alabama State in 2024 and as an offensive line assistant at Iowa in 2023. He also coached at his alma mater, Southern University, and spent time with Louisiana Tech, Morehouse College and Lincoln University as an assistant.
Browne was a four-year starter at left tackle for Southern, garnering three All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors. He was also named to the FCS All-American team twice in his playing career.
“Chris brings a detail driven mentality to our offensive line room that will create an identity of technical mastery and toughness,” Mason said. “He’s coached and played the position at a high level, understands how to develop linemen and has experience in both the SEC and the NFL. We’re confident he’ll make an immediate impact.”
MTSU still has one vacancy on its coaching staff, after the mid-season firing of wide receiver coach Cornelius Williams on Nov. 11.
