Registered voters began to cast votes in Rutherford County on Oct. 16, when early voting began.
Sidelines will track turnout in the county over the course of the early voting period, ending on Oct. 31. We will be looking at the percentage of registered voters that have cast their ballots in the county as a whole as well as comparing turnout between precincts.
The graph and map will be updated each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Check back here for updates.

Oct. 31
- Rutherford County ended the early voting period on Oct. 31, with a total of 115,133 people casting their ballots early. That is about 51 percent of all voters in the county.
- In the last week, turnout steadily climbed each day.

- At the close of the early voting period, the precinct housing MTSU, precinct 171, clocked in with the lowest amount of ballots cast, at just 31 percent.
- Precincts ranged from 31 percent to 61 percent of registered voters casting their ballots early.

Oct. 30
- The early voting count trended up on both Monday and Tuesday, which is a change in direction following last week.
- The percentage of voters that have cast their ballots thus far now sits at 43 percent.

- MTSU and Patterson Park still lag far behind other precincts in turnout.
- Most precincts are in the 40 percent range, but central and northern Rutherford county are between 25-30 percent.

Oct. 28
- Friday’s early voting numbers spiked, but overall, the turnout continues to trickle down.
- At the close of voting on Saturday, 36 percent of registered voters in Rutherford County cast their ballots.

- Precincts 171 and 181, including the MTSU and Patterson Park areas, still have the lowest turnout at 20 percent.
- Precinct 122 is leading the pack with a turnout of 45 percent.
- Central and northern parts of the county are lagging behind in turnout while the south, east and west precincts generally have a higher percentage of voters that have cast their ballots early.

Oct. 24
- Since Monday, daily totals have been trending down across the county.
- To date, 27 percent of all registered voters in the county have cast their ballots, an increase of seven percent over our last update.

- Precinct 171, MTSU’s precinct, is still lagging behind, with a total of 15 percent turnout so far.
- Precinct 122 remains in the lead with 37 percent of registered voters already casting their ballots.

Oct. 22
- On Monday, Oct. 21, 8,911 registered voters cast their ballot.
- To date, 20 percent of registered Rutherford County voters have cast their vote during early voting.
- The date with the highest turnout remains Oct. 16, the first day for early voting.

- Precinct 171, the one to which MTSU belongs, is tied with precinct 181 for the lowest turn out so far, sitting at 11 percent at Monday’s close.
- Precinct 122, north of Murfreesboro near Smyrna, has had the highest turnout to date, with 614 out of 2161 registered voters casting their ballots so far.
